Eraserhead is David Lynch’s first feature film. It was completed on a mere $20,000 budget, coming from an initial $10,000 grant from the college where he was studying, and loans he collected over the years from friends, when the grant money was over.

OK I’ve got to come out and say that Green by Jay Lake is a weird book. Now I know what you may be thinking, because I’m thinking it too. You’re thinking, “The Dark is such a weird and bizarre monster that he probably thinks David Lynch movies are perfectly normal and romantic comedies are strange.” You’re right after a fashion, but believe me, I know weird when I see it. Sometimes weird is like David Lynch movies and other times weird is like opening a closet to investigate a strange noise an

GPS blamed for demolishing the wrong house . Cool just for the synopsis outline of Wall Street II . This one dude didn’t like Up , a movie which practically everyone else really enjoyed. Both the review and comments beneath are worth reading just to entertain a contrarian opinion and witness a hostile reaction . If David Lynch directed Dirty Dancing . Another amusingly contrarian opinion: provided you still have a job, the recession is actually a pretty good time to score some gr

David Lynch has been taking a break from making bizarre movies since the release of Inland Empire in 2006, but never fear! He’s making bizarre rock music instead. A project entitled Fox Bat Strategy: A Tribute to Dave Jaurequi , chockful of the creepy, dreamlike ’50s rock Lynch’s films are notorious for, is set to release on June 30. The seven song LP featuring original lyrics by Lynch was mostly recorded in 1994 with session artists from his film Fire Walk With Me and is named for the late

Diane, It’s June 17, 2009, and I’m coming back to Twin Peaks. How’s this for a shocking piece of news: Seventeen years after Kyle MacLachlan last appeared as Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me , WENN reports that the actor wants to resurrect the legendary show on the Internet. The actor says: “I have a crazy idea to bring back Twin Peaks on the net as five-minute webisodes.” Should this become a reality, it will be without David Lynch, whose “focus is more o

5 Stars Childhood re-lived
I love this movie, The spice, the Baron, the worms, Paul Atraitis or Usul, Muad’Dib, Arakis, it’s all here. What a great movie! This movie moves much faster and gives, not all, but enough of the book to keep the story moving. Plus BONUS we have Sting playing the Bad guy Feyd-Rautha Rabban… how can this movie go wrong? One of my all time favorites from my early years.

1 Star So bad it’s not even good
The most interesting thing about this movie is that you can see how George Lucas ripped off the original book, ‘Dune’ by Frank Herbert, for his ‘Star Wars’ series. By the time Lucas gets to filming ‘The Phantom Menace,’ he has graduated to David Lynch’s level of making sci-fi movies like ‘Dune.’ These kind of movies are filled with sword fighting, endless expository monologues, stilted dialogue, worries over economic warfare and pained attempts to invoke classical and religious themes. This movie shows Kyle Machlan teaching ragtag sand dwellers how to tear apart stone by making resonating sounds with their voices. Oh, and it has big worms.

1 Star Now I know why only $3.99
I should have known the price was way to low. Looks like they are trying to unload these on the uninformed consumer. It is my fault for assuming that this would play on my Blu Ray player, now I know better. So, if you do not have the HD player, don’t even bother with this DVD.

1 Star Does Not Even Compare To The Book
The movie form of Dune is terrible. It has very few similarities to the wonderful book except for the same (very) basic plot line. The acting was terrible and unconvincing. The special effects were very poor, even for the 80s. If someone has not read the book, I can understand how confusing this movie could be. If someone has read the book, then this movie is just terrible.

Stilgar, an important and powerful character in the book, is just a small shadow of his book form in the movie. Duncan Idaho was not nearly as major a character in the movie as he was in the book. And I am pretty sure that the Harkonens did not have heart-plugs in the book. The final knife fight between Paul and Feyd was intense and exciting in the book, in the movie however, the knife fight was not intense and very short lived.

If you have read the book, do not pass up a free chance to watch this movie, however, do not bother buying it. It is interesting to see some of the characters and events in movie form, but once again, it is not worth paying for. If you have not read the wonderful book, read it. Do not waste your time with this awful movie.

5 Stars Give the Harkonnen a blade
This is a very stirring movie. Paul triumphs and avenges his fathers death. It’s a pretty simple plot but the movie pulls me in every time.

It had been awhile since I’d seen the extended television version and after my recent viewing I’d have to agree with Lynch that it is inferior. I guess more is not always better.

I do have one quibble with the theatrical version. Why in heavans name did Lynch cut the Thufir Hawat death scene. It is a powerful moving scene even without a score.

Like other reviewer have written, I hope someday that Lynch realizes what an amazing piece of art he crafted. How can he not like this movie.
